    Our Mission

    Welcome to Bija Initiative! We are a group of former corporate employees turned yoginis whose mission is to break the cycle of stress in the workplace. We spent more than four decades in Corporate environments and know all too well the issues you face.

     

    Our vision is to transform your place of business into a positive, creative place, where employees love to go. By sharing the tools of meditation and the technology of yoga and breathing practice, our wellness coaches help employees care for themselves. As a side benefit, you’ll find your team (and your business) is more happy, creative, AND productive.

    The Workplace Epidemic

    Ever since the financial crisis, everyone in our fast-paced business world is being asked to do more with less. We get it, we have been there. In the name of speed, CEOs rush their way through meetings, one more thing is added to your workload, and sometimes, employees crumble emotionally under pressure. Some workers even turn to violence. The state of the American workplace has many side effects, but perhaps the most damaging is stress. Deepak Chopra calls stress the number one epidemic of our civilization, causing people to fall victim to mental and physical disease.

    A Solution: Upgrade the Nervous System

    When an employee is facing a challenge, his nervous system and mind instantly go into a stress reaction of “fight or flight.” It has been shown that an average person goes through this cycle 12 times each day. This reactive stress cycle affects digestion, heart rate, the immune system, and an employee’s overall well-being. We have an ancient solution to this epidemic: upgrade the nervous system! The tools of meditation, breathing, and yoga stop this process before it begins, so the person is able to respond rather than react. In addition, they are able to do so from a clear, focused state of mind. As you practice meditation, you might find you communicate more effectively, you are more productive, and you begin to reap the benefits of happiness and health.

    Mindfulness Meditation

    Shifting Reactivity to Responsiveness

    Workshops teach the power of imagination/visualization to help the body and mind relax, decompress and heal itself. In ongoing classes, participants are led through breathing exercises, guided imagery, and the use of a mantra.

     

    These classes are scheduled twice weekly or weekly for optimal effect.

    Yoga Interlude

    Becoming Stronger & More Flexible

    Yoga at Your Desk and breathing practices include a gentle series of movement, based on ancient yoga postures that can easily be done at a desk, in a boardroom, or on the yoga mat, depending on the space available. Breathing practices include breath regulation, breath retention and other ancient practices that aid in promoting the relaxation response.

    Integrative Nutrition

    Cultivating Health through Food

    Workplace nutrition habits have a major impact on physical, psychological and emotional health. We see food as building blocks for the construct of a healthy individual. Our ongoing nutritional coaching, lunch-and-learn programs, and workshops are designed to teach the employee how to have a healthier relationship with food.

    Offering tools such as meditation, yoga and functional nutrition, Bija Initiative empowers organizations to address the job stress epidemic and improve the wellbeing of their employees and business

     

    May 31, 2016 – Lehigh Valley, Pa. – Bija Initiative, a startup committed to helping organizations grow stronger and more resilient by addressing job-related stress, has expanded to the Lehigh Valley region, thanks to a collaboration with entrepreneur/yoga instructor Kelly Prentice.

     

    “I am thrilled to collaborate with Bija Initiative founder Leah Crescenzo to help business owners take a closer look at the wellbeing of their employees, and their own quality of life, hence the strength and vitality of their entire organization,” says Prentice, who teaches yoga and mindfulness at Lehigh Valley yoga studios and at Lafayette College.

    We are Driven to Break the Vicious Cycle of Stress

    Kelly Prentice

    Wellness Coach

    Kelly holds a BA in Communications and started her career in writing and public relations more than 15 years ago. In 2003, she completed a 200+ hour yoga teacher training and left hospital PR work to become a freelance writer and yoga instructor. In 2008, she started a family and returned to her love of ballet. To deepen her practice in the ancient traditions of yoga, Kelly adopted a daily meditation practice and studies ancient yogic texts at the Arsha Vidya Gurukulum in the Pocono Mountains. Kelly is thrilled to join Bija Initiative and bring ancient practices to cubicles everywhere.

    Leah Crescenzo

    Health & Wellness Coach

    Leah holds a BA in Communications and Graphic Design. She is a 500+ hour trained Yoga Teacher, Board Certified Integrative Nutrition Coach, and an Ericksonian Hypnosis Master Practitioner recognized by the National Guild of Hypnotists. She believes stress has become an epidemic that can be managed in a productive way using self care practices such as yoga, meditation, nutrition and mindfulness.

    Leah enjoys a twice daily Vedic Meditation practice and is frequently trying to convince her 7 year old daughter to take part. In the end she believes in leading by example.

    Susan Lugo

    Managing Partner

    For the last 15 years Susan managed accounts and developed projects, involving B2B and B2C sales, retail design services, and startup expertise. She was the cofounder and managing partner of a retail design firm, which consulted to The Mills Corporation (acquired by Simon Properties). The global projects were $100MM+ fast-paced and complex. When Susan started her career, she was an architectural project coordinator for 10 years, following a rigorous education from UC Berkeley, and Marymount H.S. Susan is known as a lover of fresh food, yoga, hiking, rollerblading, beach volleyball and most of all sleep!
